How your donation is used
When you give to a specific campaign, we make a good-faith effort to direct your gift to that program. If a campaign has reached its goal, has closed, or can no longer accept funds, we'll apply your gift to the most closely related program at our reasonable discretion, and let you know by email.
General donations go to our General Fund and are deployed where the need is greatest across Hope Behind Bars Organization's programs.
Receipts and currency
A receipt is emailed to the address you provide, usually within one business day. If it doesn't arrive, check your spam folder or write to us and we'll resend it.
Donations are recorded and reported in Ethiopian Birr (ETB). If you give in USD, the amount is converted to ETB at the exchange rate in effect on the date of your gift; your card is charged in the currency you selected.
Refunds
Donations are voluntary and generally non-refundable. If you believe a donation was made in error or charged incorrectly, contact us within fourteen (14) days at hopebehindbars01@gmail.com and we'll review it in good faith.
One-time gifts
Each donation is processed as a single, one-time gift — we don't store your card details or charge it again. If you'd like to give again, you're always welcome to make another donation.
Anonymity and your information
You can choose to appear as "Anonymous" on a campaign's donor wall. That only hides your name from public display — we still keep your name, email, and any phone number you provide so we can issue your receipt and reach you about your gift if needed.
We never sell or rent your information. For the full detail of what we collect and how we handle it, see our Privacy Policy.
